5 Lip Products I'm Obsessed With
Over the years, I have given my lips more and more attention and thought (good or bad).
When I was younger, I was extremely self-conscious of how small my lips were. I remember covering my mouth when I would laugh in front of people because I thought too much of my teeth showed. Right when I got out of high school, I spent hundreds of dollars getting Juvederm at a plastic surgeon’s office to make them appear fuller for 6 months at a time. To be honest, I never really loved them at that size either.
Fast forward to now (filler-free) and my lips are something that I absolutely love! Not only do they frame the most expressive and joyful area of my face, but I’ve learned that they are also really fun to pamper and dress up.
Needless to say, I’ve gone through countless lip glosses, lipsticks, balms, and care products for my lips over the years. I’ve wasted money on high-end lipsticks that I’ve hated, fan-girled over drugstore selections, and researched the best products to make my lips appear fuller while remaining natural and keeping them from cracking.
Since I have gotten so many questions on Instagram stories about my very specific routine, I decided to finally round up the 5 lip products I use daily in one place for you!
1. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
If you haven’t heard about this mask yet or seen it on your favorite beauty blogger’s Instagram, consider this my gift to you. This product has become a cult-favorite overnight, and for good reason.
Not to be dramatic, but this is one of my top 3 beauty products of ALL TIME. I bring this gem with me everywhere, no matter how long or short the trip. I swipe this leave-on mask onto my lips every morning and night without fail (sometimes I even use it in the middle of the day as well). It works at repairing my lips when dry, making them smoother, and softer.
The mask is enriched with vitamin C, antioxidants, and Moisture Wrap technology that boasts hyaluronic acid and minerals to form a protective film over the lips to lock in moisture.
Not to mention that on the days that I’m skipping my makeup routine in favor of going au-natural, this lip sleeping mask works as the perfect clear gloss. Sometimes if my lips need a little extra TLC when I’m getting dolled up, I use this mask underneath of one of my other nude or pink lip glosses too.
2. Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Glass Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer
The lip gloss I didn’t know I needed. When I ventured into Sephora last month, I was looking for a particular Laura Mercier product I had seen in a beauty tutorial online. Although they didn’t carry that brand in the store, the sales associate lead me to the Fenty selection instead with the promise that this lip gloss was even better.
I was eyeing a few different shades, but she mentioned that this specific one, “Fu$$y (shimmering pink)”, was so popular that they could barely keep it on the shelves. Since there was only 1 left in stock, I quickly grabbed it and shoved it into my cart.
I have been wearing it for almost every one of my recent photoshoots (including this one) and have been handing out the link non-stop on Instagram stories. This shade “Fu$$y” is glittery with a nice mix of nude and pink; an excellent color for when you want to walk the fine line between natural and bold.
3. NYX Professional Makeup Butter Gloss
My MUST for drugstore buys. I have not found another lip gloss that competes with this one on a price ($5) and quality level. If you are in favor of saving a little cash (who isn’t?) and getting glam with the ease of a roadside beauty stop, then this product is for you.
I’ve tried several different colors, but my favorite for natural, everyday makeup is shade “Eclair”. It adds the perfect, medium-coverage pop of pink to your lips without going overboard.
4. Jill Stuart Beauty Lip Blossom
The only lipstick that I am currently using. I have tried so many others in the past for a “bold” date night look or special occasion, and I always wind up feeling like a clown rather than a chic style maven. Bright red lipstick looks good on some people, but unfortunately that is just not the case for me (at least for now).
This lip product is really a mix between a lipstick and a gloss because of the silky sheer texture. The lip blossom is buildable and, unlike other lipsticks, this has a shine oil built in to prevent your lips from drying and cracking. The shade I love, “#56 Classic Red”, is rich but not overwhelming.
Also, you have to check out the lipstick case it comes in; it is DROOL (and Instagram feed) worthy.
5. Bare Minerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor
Ideal for perfecting the no-makeup makeup look. Bare Minerals has been my go-to since college, and although they tend to switch up their shades a lot (sometimes I swear it’s the same except for the name), I have always loved their selection of nude gloss’. This specific line is primer-infused to give a gorgeous soft focus effect and help with transfer resistance.
My tried and true full-coverage shades right now are: Boss, Slay, and Infamous.
