Dressing up Denim
Among the many reasons why I love blogging, one that stands out is getting the opportunity to shoot in new locations. Traveling around Maryland, into DC, and spending time in New York City to style and shoot new content for the blog and our brand partners has been such a blessing over the past few years. It provides us with an excuse to get outside of our comfort zone and explore places that we otherwise might miss.
Recently, I have fallen more in love with DC than ever before. The beautiful architecture and historic monuments have a way of catching my eye, and I love highlighting them in the background of our photos.
A few weekends back, we had the chance to explore the iconic Union Station in DC before heading over to the US Capitol Building, and finally Union Market to grab lunch.
When I did a poll on Instagram stories, a lot of you expressed that you were looking for more style posts specifically tailored to weekend looks. For me, I know that when I’m not working in the office, I can almost always be found in ripped jeans with a t-shirt or comfy sweater, and over-sized sunglasses to match. Whether I’m running around downtown doing fittings or simply grocery shopping with Sam, this is my go-to look.
Denim in particular is such a versatile staple because it can be dressed up or down easily depending on the occasion. For this look, I wanted to show you how I elevate my favorite pair of skinny jeans (under $60) using a few chic, yet affordable, additions.
I love this pair of mini rose gold Mignonne Gavigan earrings for adding quick glam without going over the top. They barely peek out from under my hair so it’s a fun surprise when someone catches a glimpse (or if I sweep my hair up into a bun). I have linked a few of my most loved at the bottom of this post!
The second way to dress up this denim look is by pairing it with classic pointed toe pumps (I’ve worn these here, here, and a bunch of other times). In my opinion, pairing denim, especially boyfriend jeans, with chic heels is the perfect example of how to dress effortlessly sexy.
These nude heels sit at the base of my shoe closet because I am constantly grabbing for them. Fun fact: they are one of the least expensive pairs of shoes in my closet (I snagged them for under $35). A higher price doesn’t always mean better quality.
Now, my favorite thing about this look is my faux wrap sweater. It is undoubtedly the softest, coziest sweater I have ever put on my body. I’m debating whether I should beg Heartloom to make the rest of my wardrobe out of this fabric. Kidding. Kind of. The only way that I can describe this sweater is that it feels like butter against my skin. I will never (I repeat: never) go back to itchy, stiff sweaters again.
I am fully embracing #sweaterweather this week while we are dipping into the low 50s in Maryland. We have an early Halloween party to attend this weekend after shooting a few things again in DC (surprise, surprise). How are you spending this cozy, Fall weekend?
