Finding and Styling the Perfect White Jean Jacket
You know the feeling when you stumble upon an item and become so obsessed with it that you decide you need like 10? I have gone through my fair share of those over the years - from silk scarves to berets. Well, this season I’m having a major, unexpected moment with jean jackets.
I’ve been wearing jean jackets (white and traditional blue) so often during this transition into Spring that I don’t even know how I’ll go back to styling outfits without them. They are classic, easy, and perfectly light for Spring temperatures. Oh, and did I mention that they practically look good with everything?
The funny thing is that this white jean jacket isn’t even a new find for me! I’ve had it in my closet for several seasons now after making the purchase over 2 years ago. “They” say not to count out a trend because sooner or later, it always finds its way back into the spotlight. Although I would hardly label denim jackets a trend, they have been more prominent than ever on my Instagram feed and my favorite bloggers’ OOTDs in the past month or so.
With endless possibilities on how you can style a jean jacket, it is really no wonder that this wardrobe staple is a fan-favorite.
Now, let's dive into how exactly to find the perfect denim jacket for YOU! In my opinion, it all begins with the texture; a soft and worn-in jean jacket is key for comfort (and for looking effortless). There’s nothing I enjoy less than stiff, heavy, and scratchy denim on my skin.
Look for denim jackets that move freely and aren’t restrictive, and size up for a relaxed and loose fit.
The fabric in this particular jacket is cotton and linen and is a bit more formal than my traditional one since it was not bought distressed or faded. I wouldn’t count out jean jackets that are 100% cotton (my other one is and I love it), but those tend to be a little more on the stiffer side if they aren’t pre-worn or distressed.
Currently, my favorite places to shop for soft and stylish jean jackets are: JCrew, Loft, Old Navy, and Madewell. They are the most affordable for the quality, and they truly last a lifetime.
Next, for styling: I love pairing denim jackets with feminine shapes and fabrics like this flowy, white maxi dress. If you’re going with a monochrome outfit like me, I suggest adding in a pop of color in the form of sunglasses, a hat, bag, or all 3 (I highly recommend pastel shades for Spring). *Obviously I linked A TON of my favorites below!
Since we’re not quite into the Summer months yet, the all-white look could potentially look off-season without the addition of some color.
When I’m going for more of a casual look to run errands downtown, grab pizza with Sam, or spend the afternoon by the water, I opt for denim on denim, with a bold tee to spice things up.
Most of the time, I grab my white jeans to pair with this jacket and I add in something bright with a graphic design or pattern (like this “All Smiles” t-shirt).
Another tip: try swapping out your usual purse for a funky, over-sized pair of earrings (LOVE these) as a fun way to showcase your unique style while keeping the look cool and casual.
