Stylish Plaid Pieces to Get You Through Fall
Plaid for Fall? Groundbreaking.
Happy First official day of Fall! I know we’ve all been celebrating since the release of the pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks. Although I haven’t personally had one yet this year (shocking, I know), I have burned through exactly 3,246 white pumpkin candles from HomeGoods already… so consider me on the same page as you.
As I carefully plan out this season with our annual trip to the pumpkin patch and apple orchard, a rival college football game, haunted ghost tour, and more, I wanted to first share what I’m going to be wearing (aka the most important element, of course).
There was a time in my life that I didn’t know the true value of plaid. The only image that came to mind when I thought of plaid was the bright and bold (and itchy) button-down shirts.
Although I have tried to scrub this from my memory, during my first year of high school as I was trying my best to blend in with the other girls in my grade, I begged my Mom to buy me a plaid button-down shirt from Hollister (you know the one). It was oversized, stiff, and the ugliest combo of puke green, blood red, and varsity blue.
Halfway through my first day of proudly sporting my new button-down, I went into the dimly-lit bathroom in our school and caught my reflection in the mirror. I was shook.
I looked like a little blonde girl who was half drowning in a cheesy Halloween-version of Jessica Simpson’s Daisy Dukes costume, and half like I dropped my overalls off my tractor on the way to school from working at the Farm. Moral of the story: based on that experience, I decided plaid as a whole wasn’t for me.
Thankfully, as I’ve navigated through the fashion world (and as plaid has gotten a major upgrade in the color department), I have grown to love this traditional Fall pattern once again. From mini skirts to ponchos, dresses, and yes, even button-downs, I have willingly set aside a special place in my closet for my favorite plaid pieces.
