The Best Place to Stay in New York City
I haven’t been home for more than a few days and I’m already checking my calendar to see when I can sneak away again to the city that never sleeps. Attending New York Fashion Week has been a dream of mine for many years and it still hasn’t fully sunken in that last week that dream became a reality. I sat front row wedged between people deemed “important” in the fashion industry, attended events surrounded by creative and inspiring women, and stayed at the most beautiful hotel overlooking Manhattan and the Hudson River.
“Pinch me” moments flew by left and right. For three days, the feeling of exhaustion was masked by excitement, inspiration, and pure joy. Overall, I couldn’t be more thankful for the entire experience.
From the second that we arrived at Gansevoort on Friday, Vanessa and I were greeted with the most gracious and accommodating staff. Although early, we were checked in immediately and ushered to our gorgeous and spacious Deluxe Double Suite on the 6th floor. The view from our private balcony took my breath away and the vibrant, pink tufted headboards made me feel right at home. We had a chic and modern marble bathroom filled with bath and body products from L’Occitane en Provence (one of my favorites), an accent wall covered with black and white artwork, and all of the amenities required for a successful fashion week.
Relatively new, but already a well-known name, Gansevoort opened in the historic Meatpacking District in 2004. The hotel is made up of 186 rooms, including 22 Suites and 1 Duplex Penthouse Suite. They are pet-friendly, have a fitness center, business center, and even a Glam + Go (a premier blowout experience) open inside of the hotel. Straight down to the tiniest of details, Gansevoort has truly thought of everything. I believe that is the difference between an average and an excellent hotel stay.
The first few things that caught my eye were the trendy decor and modern textiles. From the urban lounge and bar with hanging lights and a pool table as you walk in, to the rooftop complete with wall-to-wall windows boasting a 360-degree view of the Manhattan skyline, it’s no surprise that I was smitten. There were pops of colors and patterns at every turn; it was a content creator’s dream come true. Certainly, there was no shortage of inspiration or Instagram-worthy backdrops.
Between shows and events, we were able to find time to relax and grab a bite at Lelie Rooftop, best known for their innovative cocktails and light bites. Vanessa and I each ordered the fish tacos and shared a plate of truffle fries (I highly recommend!) We even shot a few looks on the outdoor patio of the rooftop surrounded by their heated pool and chic lounge chairs.
Although we didn’t have a chance to sit down and dine at The Chester, a French brasserie owned by Gansevoort, I was thoroughly impressed by the modern and stylish decor when we poked our heads inside. I am already imagining a romantic date night with Sam tucked away into a cozy corner booth at The Chester next time we visit.
In the mornings, Vanessa and I explored the surrounding neighborhood on our way to shows and events. We were pleasantly surprised to find everything we needed within walking distance. The beautiful Restoration Hardware restaurant was across the street, along with Sephora, Dior, Christian Louboutin, and several popular cafes and restaurants. If it weren’t for the shows and events, we could have easily spent the entire weekend exploring the historic area around our hotel. I am already making a list of the places I want to visit when we return and have a bit more downtime, like the iconic High Line Park, Whitney Museum of American Art, Chelsea Market, and Sugar Factory.
From the moment that we checked in, my expectations of our stay were exceeded. I felt pampered and completely taken care of by Gansevoort. I only wish that I could wake up to the warm sun from our private balcony and the exhilarating view of the bustling Manhattan streets forever. Until next time, NYC…
