How to Make a Vision Board for 2020
Hello, 2020!
I woke up today feeling so grateful to begin this New Year with a renewed sense of energy and fresh mindset. After kissing Sam and Oliver good morning, I spent the majority of my day in my office alone journaling, doing a full brain dump, writing a list of all that I am grateful for in 2019, and getting intentional about my goals for the New Year.
I set my calendar up until 2021 with the milestones I want to hit and small, actionable steps each day/week/month that will help me accomplish some of my bigger dreams.
After that and a quick break for coffee and fries with Sam at our new favorite cafe, I shifted my focus to my vision board. I had been working on my virtual vision board for a couple weeks now, but I always enjoy making a physical one to see everyday in my office.
I did this last year as well when I was in my tiny, windowless cubicle crammed into a corner. Seeing those inspiring words and images every day truly made a difference in my mood (even if our cleaning crew thought I was a total weirdo).
A few weeks ago, I shared my intention of creating one again and got a ton of questions on how to set up your own. So, without further ado, I am sharing my step-by-step guide on how to create your own vision board for the New Year below!
Questions to ask yourself:
What words do you want to guide your year?
If you were gone tomorrow, how would you want your loved ones to describe you/your life?
When do you feel most inspired? Loved? Present? Happy?
What would you do if you had a clear schedule and a full bank account?
What would you do if social media didn’t exist?
What will you be most proud of when you look back at the end of 2020?
What are you currently taking for granted?
What are you thankful for today?
What are 3 things you did that you are proud of in 2019?
What are 3 ways you can be a better version of yourself in 2020?
Tips for creating a virtual vision board:
Set aside a few hours or a full day to journal, do a brain dump, and set attainable goals (personal, financial, work, and health) and actionable intentions for the new year
Create a secret Pinterest board
If you’re a regular Pinterest user, first go through your already-saved pins and see what stands out to you
Then, expand and explore using the questions above as prompts
Start adding pins to your secret board that inspire and motivate you and embody how you want your year to look/feel
Supplies needed to make a physical vision board:
Poster, cork, or photo board
Glue stick, clear tape/colored washi tape, or pins/tacks
Scissors
25-50 Printed photos (I always use CVS because it's easiest/cheapest; make sure to use an online coupon)
Printed words, phrases, or goals
Optional* Magazine cut-outs/mementos you have saved
Tips on how to create a physical vision board:
Start by spreading out all of your supplies so you can visualize what elements/photos are most important to you
Place the most important photos on your board first and slowly add in layers underneath, rearranging without securing anything yet
Cut some of the photos into different sizes and shapes; angle the photos different ways to get a classic “vision board” appearance
Allow yourself time to play around with the placement of different photos and words until you feel like it’s exactly how you want it to look
Using clear tape or a glue stick, start securing the back of each item loosely
Add in colored washi tape if desired to add another element and texture and to secure fully
