Leather and Satin

Whether it's a soft pink pump with torn, boyfriend jeans, or a studded clutch with a little black slip dress, there's just something sexy about bringing feminine and edgy fabrics together in one look. Since we're at a point in the season where the weather can range from 49 degrees in the morning to 70 degrees in the afternoon, layering has been key to staying comfortable all day.

This satin tank that I scooped up in Georgetown at the Violet Boutique is perfect for slipping into for a date night in the city and my leather jacket from Zara is a must-have wardrobe staple for Fall. In my opinion, Zara has the best selection of leather jackets; about 2 years ago I snagged this classic black one with a little twist of feminine in the back. I've linked a similar style at the bottom of this post from their current collection.

The other weekend, I met up with a good friend of mine and photographer, Nicole from Nicole Babcock Photography (she shot Sam and my anniversary session), in the city near my home. We went downtown early in the morning ahead of the crowds to explore and shoot this style look. It's always so fun shooting in the city that I love, especially when I can stand in the middle of a road downtown and not cause a screaming commotion.

One of the very first dates that Sam and I went on in the city, over 5 years ago, was to the Visionary Arts Museum (we took a corny picture right out front). Since then, I've done several events in the museum, we've rode our bikes by on a million Sundays, and a coffee shop that we love and frequent often now has popped up next to it. It's almost a reminder of how far we've come in the past 5 years together. So, it felt extra special to me to be shooting in front of that same ivy wall once again in the city that I now call home.
