Embracing Pink in the Winter
“How do you wear pink year-round?”
In addition to “do you really wear pink all the time?”, this is the question that I get most often when it comes to fashion.
The holidays we’ve been planning and looking forward to for months have now passed, and I’ll admit, the weeks that follow can be somewhat of a downer. Between heading back to the office, taking down the Christmas decorations, and spending less time surrounded by close family and friends, it can be difficult to remain inspired and cheerful.
Now that the weather is beginning to shift and the sun sets much earlier in the day, one of my favorite things I use to combat the less-than-amazing emotions that follow is making sure that I have flooded my wardrobe with color.
Over the years, I have collected some Winter pieces in my favorite color (pink), from this drape coat (under $40) to thick blanket scarves, hats, boots and more. And on the upside of the temperatures dropping, I am now able to wear them all with ease!
I’m not one for following fashion “rules”; instead, I wear whatever makes me happy and what I feel most like myself in. As I’ve discussed before on the blog, it hasn’t always been this way, but something I have learned over the years that has truly boosted my happiness and confidence in everyday life.
In a sea of black parkas and chunky boots, I love standing out in a pretty pink coat and nude pumps. I always imagine Elle Woods in Legally Blonde when she struts through the Law School hall as the only one with a shred of color. I admired her confidence and style so much in that movie that I declared (as I’m sure many other young girls did at the time) that, all of a sudden, I wanted to become a Lawyer.
Although that fantasy quickly faded (probably for the best), my willingness to stand by my signature style no matter the season or occasion has not.
ChicWish, an online women’s clothing boutique, has made adding color into my wardrobe extremely easy this year with the most beautiful pieces to keep me warm without compromising on my feminine style.
A few of my favorites: wrap coat in mauve, contrast faux fur coat, and comfy open front knit (very similar to the one I’m wearing in this post).
My top 3 tips for embracing pink in the Winter:
Accessorize! This is the easiest way to quickly add a touch of pink (or whatever color you choose) to an outfit. Add a hat, scarf, clutch, or even just a bold pair of colorful earrings to your look to help it pop. You’ll be surprised by how much happiness even a tiny bit of color can give you throughout your day!
Re-purpose items from warmer seasons! Take a strappy mini dress or jumpsuit, for example. Say you love the bright color, but it’s too cold to wear on its own. Add a belted drape coat and faux fur stole and it’ll look like it was made for the Winter season. I’m always pulling hats, heels, dresses, and jumpsuits from other seasons to re-purpose and flex my creative styling powers rather than buying all new. Check out this post to see how! Four items that I wear year-round are: white jeans, nude pumps, pink drape coats (here and here) and pink tinted sunglasses.
Be bold on your next shopping trip and go against the grain! If you’re grabbing for that same black coat you’ve seen all of your friends wearing, ask the sales associate if it comes in a different color. Or, look for a coat that is unique all together. You never know; your friends might just be asking you where to shop next.
