Sunrise on the Brooklyn Bridge
You know the feeling you get when you're having one of those days that you just know you're going to look back on in 5, 10, or 15 years with the fondest memory? A day that you're going to bring up on anniversaries and say, "remember when..."? Well, friends, this was most definitely one of those. I could feel it in my heart as we walked around the empty streets of NYC after shooting this romantic session on the Brooklyn Bridge.
It was our last day in NYC and we woke up before the sunrise to shoot on this iconic landmark downtown. Despite our lack of rest on this trip, we were in a surprisingly playful and energetic mood, dancing and laughing throughout the entire session.
The Brooklyn Bridge was undoubtedly my favorite thing to see in NYC because of the intricate, old-world architecture, and the views of both Manhattan and Brooklyn. If you're ever planning to visit the Brooklyn Bridge in NYC, I highly recommend that you do it at sunrise. Being virtually the only ones on the Bridge this morning was an overwhelming and blissful feeling. It was a place I had envisioned myself to be standing for years, and the fact that my blogging career could bring us there felt like an enormous accomplishment.
It was still mid-April and a chilly morning, so Sam zipped his jacket around my shoulders after we wrapped the shoot and said goodbye to Jade, from Jade Nikkole Photography. He was so afraid that without my arms I would fall on my face (admittedly, I am very clumsy) so he kept his arm wrapped tight around me. Once off the bridge, we called to check on Oliver at home, and then got to talking about our first date and how much has changed in the past 7 years. It's crazy to think that one seemingly simple dinner has lead us to this beautiful life where we will get to call each other husband and wife in just a few short months.
We wandered around aimlessly until we found ourselves at this tiny breakfast cafe, sharing a milkshake and stories of our first time in NYC as kids. We talked about how we can't wait to bring our own kids to the Brooklyn Bridge one day and show them these photos (which they will most likely deem corny and tell us to "get a room").
We went to NYC with this 4-page, crazy packed schedule of events that I worked on for weeks prior so we could hit every look, collaboration, and location I had planned. I was so desperate to squeeze in all of the "important" things. Unbeknownst to me, the most important thing wasn't on my schedule at all; sometimes it's the moment between the plans that forms the best memories.
