Staying Cozy in a Belted Sweater Dress
What is your favorite Winter staple?
Mine would definitely have to be sweater dresses. They are cozy, stylish, and easy for throwing on with boots, flats, or even chunky sneakers for the ultimate cool-girl look.
In this transition from Winter to Spring, the combo of a light sweater dress and over the knee boots is ideal. It’s my go-to solution to staying warm without sweating it out under layers of clothes or coats.
Now, are you ready for a confession? This sweater dress wasn’t technically a dress when I found it on the “last chance” rack at Nordstrom a few weeks back. It was an XL sweater, but lucky for me, it was just the length this 5’1 petite girl needed. As someone who has always been on the shorter side, I know the struggle of finding cute mini dresses that fit. Most are either too long or too wide, and sweater dresses in particular never seemed to create a flattering silhouette.
Once I figured out that ordering a sweater a few sizes up and simply belting it at the waist was the perfect compromise, I felt like I now had endless possibilities. If you’ve been following along on my style posts, you know that I have been all about the belted waist trend lately (#blessed that it has come back around). A couple of my favorite looks recently are: Little Red Dress and How to Style High Waisted Pants.
Right now is the best time to snag those last-minute Winter purchases like sweaters and sweater dresses. They are on major sale because the department stores are making room for the highly anticipated (and currently overpriced) new arrivals. New arrivals that we really won’t be wearing for at least another few weeks, if we’re being realistic here.
Tip: don’t fall into the trap (that I have so many times before) of switching over to your full Spring wardrobe before those last few freeze-overs and snow storms. Struggling through the final weeks of chilly temperatures is no fun in shorts and t-shirts. Wear your sweaters and sweater dresses with pride (and comfort) knowing that this is your last chance until Fall or Winter rolls back around.
I have linked all of the pieces to this look for you to shop below! Many of my favorites are priced under $50 and selling out quick!
Do yourself a favor and order the brown and coffee (black) GG dupe belts from Amazon. They are under $20 each and I use both of mine constantly for accentuating my waist when a dress isn’t form-fitting, or to dress up a simple outfit like a t-shirt and jeans.
