How to Style High Waisted Pants
Girls, meet your official Fall and Winter best friend: high waisted pants.
We are getting the first snow of the year today in Baltimore and I’m cozied up in my office dreaming of Thanksgiving recipes and gift guides. I’ve got a warm cup of tea on my desk, a beanie knit on my head, and I’m wearing my go-to uniform as of late: a cropped sweater and high waisted pants. It’s the perfect combo for looking chic while staying warm and comfy.
One of the things that I find funny is when I finally meet someone in person after interacting with them strictly via social and they comment on how surprised they are that I’m so short! Instagram is a sneaky tool to hide the fact that I’m actually only 5’1. My favorite trick that I have mastered over the years to make my legs appear longer is utilizing high waisted pants.
If you find the right pair, they can instantly elongate your legs, make them appear thinner, and I actually find that they are even more comfortable to wear than normal pants because they suck everything in with minimal effort.
This pair in particular is so soft and stretchy that it feels like I’m wearing a comfy pair of leggings instead of chic trousers. I got them a couple years back online for under $25 (somehow they are still in stock in every size!?), and they have been my go-to ever since.
I wear them to the office, on the weekends, and even for events. They are super versatile and can be dressed up (with a blouse or blazer) or down (with this sweater or teddy coat) easily depending on the occasion.
My biggest piece of advice for styling high waisted pants is to make sure that you pair them with either a crop top that hits right at your bellybutton, or a tight-fitted bodysuit/blouse that can be tucked in without excess fabric bulge. You want to avoid pairing these pants with something that is going to hide your waist or make you feel like you have no shape.
I also love adding a belt in for a focal point and to direct the eye to your waist to make your legs look like they start way up there.
When I first shared this GG belt dupe on Instagram stories, I was overwhelmed with the amount of responses I got within minutes. My DMs have never been so full! I knew this belt would be a favorite of mine from the moment I got it in the mail, but I’m so glad that you babes loved it just as much.
I have since purchased it in black as well because you really can’t beat the price point of $15, and I know it will be the perfect accessory for dressing up during the holiday season.
Now lastly, ya’ll know that I have a serious obsession with all things Rebecca Minkoff, so when I spotted her signature satchel on sale at a consignment shop, it went without question that I had to have it. It has quickly become a staple in my wardrobe and I have been using it daily throughout this season.
For this look, I wanted to stick with neutral shades for a classic, chic outfit that can go from day to night, and Fall to Winter. It is just cozy enough for a date night downtown, or running around the office at work.
p.s. This outfit could also be used for something like Thanksgiving next week (#thankful for 2-day shipping).
