Little Red Dress for the Holidays
What’s in your wardrobe this holiday season?
The stress of finding the “perfect” outfit for your annual office party, glitzy New Years Eve event, and meaningful milestones in between, like picking out your tree and touring the Christmas village with your besties, can be overwhelming. The expectation is that you should have a new, trendy outfit for each event, leaving you with a hefty bill on top of all of your other expenses during the holidays (like gifts for loved ones).
Recently, I’ve been diving deeper into my closet and finding new ways to style old pieces rather than buying an outfit entirely off the rack. I got this red Likely dress a few months back from Poshmark and I’ve been loving it with a simple pair of nude heels for date nights with Sam. But, I was kind of tired of wearing it the same way week after week (plus, the weather hasn’t exactly been ideal for a sleeveless mini dress).
This year my goal has been to create a holiday capsule wardrobe, and one of my favorite items included in it is this little red dress. The bold color screams “holiday” and the pleats are the perfect feminine detail. The best thing about it is that it can be styled so many different ways!
To switch it up for a holiday party earlier this month, I decided to cinch it at the waist with a mauve pink belt from Target (under $20). It accentuates my petite shape and adds a fun twist to an otherwise classic dress. I paired my favorite pink drape coat over top and kept it simple with a pair of nude pumps and a clutch.
Two other ways you can style a mini dress like this are to (1) layer a cropped sweater on top to make the dress look like a skirt or, (2) wear it with a statement jacket, like a plaid blazer or faux fur, that takes the main focus.
