What to Wear for Maternity Photos
Ah, maternity photos; a major milestone in the pregnancy journey! If you’re reading this, it’s probably because you are nearing the 30-35 week mark. Congratulations, my sweet mama-to-be!
Personally, doing a maternity photoshoot was something I had dreamed of (and saved inspiration for) for years, even before becoming pregnant myself. I have always admired and been drawn to pregnant women, and felt that it is one of the most beautiful times in a woman’s life.
Whether you are feeling a bit self-conscious at this point in your pregnancy with extra curves or you’re embracing this season of change, I think that it is important to document your journey no matter what. Even if no one but you lays eyes on these photos, I still believe it is a milestone worth investing in. Someday, when your baby is grown, you will look back on these memories with love and admiration for how far you’ve come.
Now that I have hopefully convinced you to finally book your maternity session, let’s get down to what you should wear for your photos! I had decided that I wanted to do a mix of indoor and outdoor photos with some of just me and some with my husband, Sam. Because of this, I knew that I would need a variety of clothing to switch things up. However, this didn’t mean that I needed to go out and spend a ton of money on new outfits for the occasion.
By all means, if you decide that this is an event that you want to splurge on and treat yourself for making it through the past 8 months, then be my guest! With that being said, I know that pregnancy can put a financial strain on many couples with the upcoming hospital bills, nursery essentials, etc. so I wanted to share this post today while keeping a budget in mind.
With your bump being the main focus, the outfits that you choose to take your maternity photos in should be fairly simplistic. If, like me, you choose to do a variety of indoor and outdoor photos, the 3 style essentials you will need include: a basic bodysuit, a maxi dress, and a robe or button-down (to show off your bare bump).
All of the pieces that I wore for my maternity photos with Jade Nikkole Photography were under $100 (one of my favorites even being under $30), so I am rounding up my favorite budget-friendly choices for you below!
